Today, the Legislature and unelected state employees are creating fuel and energy policies without considering their impact on California families. Their actions have resulted in fuel, electricity and natural gas rates that are much higher in California than the national averages and costs are continuing to rise.

Unfortunately, a bill in the Legislature would force consumers to purchase 100% electric vehicles and could place an enormous strain on the electric grid since drivers would have to plug in their vehicles to charge every night. Before we mandate a switch to zero emissions vehicles, we should make sure the grid is ready and evaluate the cost to consumers.

As California moves forward into the next generation of energy and climate change policies, CARE will advocate for policies that successfully achieve greenhouse gas reduction goals while also considering the costs to consumers and the need to grow jobs and our economy.
